Privacy Policy
This policy explains what data AxisBench ("we", "us") collects when you use axisbench.com, why we collect it, and what control you have over it.
What we collect
- Account data from Google Sign-In. When you sign in with Google we receive your Google account identifier, email address, name, profile picture URL and whether your email is verified. We request only the
openid,emailandprofilescopes. We never see your Google password and we do not access your Gmail, Drive, contacts or any other Google data. - Content you upload. Measurement files (for example DSC, TGA, DTA, FTIR, Raman and XRD data), the analysis settings you choose, results, projects and reports you create.
- Profile answers. On your first sign-in we ask you to pick your role, the sector you work in and your main material family from fixed lists. We use these only in aggregate, to understand who uses AxisBench. We also store your browser's time zone so time-limited offers end at your local midnight.
- Preferences and usage counters. Settings such as theme and language, your plan, and usage counts needed to apply plan limits.
- Product usage events. When you are signed in, our server records which features you use — for example that you imported a DSC file, ran an XRD analysis, searched literature or exported a PDF report — with the technique or format involved. These events are linked to a pseudonymous account identifier, not your name or email, and never contain your measurement data, file contents or results.
- Waitlist email. If you ask to be notified when the Enterprise plan opens, we store the email address you enter and when you entered it, and use it only to tell you about that plan. You don't need an account for this, and we will delete the address if you ask.
- Technical data. Standard server logs (such as IP address, time and requested path) kept for security and troubleshooting.
How we use it
- To sign you in and keep your workspace private to your account.
- To store, process and analyse the data you upload and to generate the reports you request.
- To apply plan limits, prevent abuse and keep the service secure.
- To understand, in aggregate, which features are used and by which kinds of users, so we can improve AxisBench.
- To contact you about your account or important changes to the service.
We do not sell your data and we do not use it for advertising. Product usage events are sent from our server; we do not put analytics or tracking scripts or cookies in your browser.
Cookies
We use a single first-party session cookie to keep you signed in, plus a short-lived cookie that protects the sign-in flow. They are strictly necessary and are not used for tracking. Your theme choice may be stored in your browser's local storage.
Service providers
- Google — sign-in (OAuth).
- Cloudflare — DNS, TLS and network delivery for axisbench.com.
- Oracle Cloud Infrastructure — hosting of the servers where your data is stored.
- AI model provider — only when you use AI-assisted report drafting, the relevant results and context are sent to our language model provider to generate the draft. They are not used to train models under our agreement with the provider.
- PostHog — product analytics, hosted in the EU. Receives only the usage events and profile answers described above, keyed by a pseudonymous identifier.
- OpenAlex — when you search literature, your search terms are sent to OpenAlex; no account data is included.
Retention and deletion
We keep your account and workspace data while your account is active. You can ask us to delete your account and all associated data at any time by emailing us; we will complete the request within 30 days, except where we must keep limited records by law. Server logs are kept for a limited period for security purposes.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or KVKK) you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict its processing. Contact us to exercise these rights.
Security
Traffic is encrypted with HTTPS, sessions are signed and stored server-side, and each user's data is isolated to their account. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your data and will notify you of breaches as required by law.
Children
AxisBench is intended for professional and academic use and is not directed at children under 16.
Changes
We may update this policy. Material changes will be announced on this page with a new "last updated" date.
